In honour of our recently lost shining star JayJay Stevens who tragically took his own life in February of 2016, we aim to recreate his vision of the successful music, arts and culture festival that is Didgerizoo, our brothers creation.
"LOVE IS THE WAY, LOVE IS MY WAY" - JayJay Stevens
Creating a cultural exchange between all tribes boasting togetherness and prosperity within acknowledgement of the traditional land owners. This year on August 5th a two day 'break in' fundraiser will be held in honour of JayJay, the new moon and his Birthday. Focusing on nurturing the land and acknowledging its original owners showcasing the best traditional dancers, musicians and artists from sorrounding tribal areas with workshops, stalls, info tents and much more. Another focus this year will be on creating positive awareness around the prevention of suicide within youth, we feel this is a huge issue in communities and though its a touchy subject it must be talked about confidently.
Running as planned days will be filled with live bands, building of the site and workshops moving into the night and the early hours with live DJ's/ producers- The best reggae, hip hop, Psytrance, Drum and bass north Queensland has to offer laying down the foundation for a fully funded festival next year bringing in bigger names and massive vibes!
Program: The first two days will focus on family vibes and creation with workshops, live bands, tribal dance feeding the family atmosphere before saturday turning in some full flight electronic sounds for all of the more seasoned festival goers.
Rules:
• BYO Water & Food
• No dogs or animals allowed on site.
• No glass
• No public bar or designated drinking area.
• Leave no trace! This means all camp sites and areas used will be the same as they were when started if not cleaner, ensuring good karma, a happy venue owner and cleanup crew.
• No Fire, as the tablelands is a dry a place at this time of the year there will be a complete fire ban, though we will have a communal fire for the warmth of people.
• Bullying or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated, we will be working with local police and security will have the right to kick anyone out they feel is disturbing the peace.
This year will be a fundraiser in order to create an evolving and ongoing festival for the years to come :)
original description write up and our fundraising mission- "Didgerizoo is a yearly festival focusing on cultural entities, bringing people of all ages and cultures together as well as allowing professional musicians and artists to express their abilities. The basis of this festival is to create a 3 day cultural exchange between local communities and others abroad; in previous years it has been held as a full moon festival and has seen quite a turn out. At Didgerizoo Productions we pride ourselves on treating the local land with complete respect and acknowledging its original owners, this has led us to feel the need for sustainability and ecological correctness within the festivals we hold, ensuring a “ leave no trace” mentality throughout the festival and all its patrons. Market stall owners are invited to set up and sell their goods creating a small market area for the purchase of food and other trinkets, this area will also contain workshops which include didgeridoo crafting, self healing, dreamtime stories and much more!
We intend to create an environment in which people of all walks of life can exchange idea’s, lifestyles and ideologies peacefully while listening to some great head bobbing music in this beautiful land we live in, All the while creating awareness of our indigenous culture through an opening ceremony held by local elders, acknowledgment of original land owners, dreamtime stories and information sessions of all forms."
This Campaign will provide Venue costs, Artist costs, security costs and event registration costs.
