Iluminada Cuya Flores was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was and still is the most loving, positive, thoughtful, and hardworking woman I was blessed to call my "La". Although she was always the the loudest one in the room, too stubborn and hard headed to listen to any of my family members, her energy and laughter brought light into this world. She was a fighter (especially with my lolo, but hey, that’s how they showed their love for one another) and most importantly, she never gave up.
Growing up, La worked very hard to make ends meet for her husband and 6 children. She provided as much as she was able to and she always put others before herself. La was that kind of person and if you have had the pleasure of crossing paths with her even for just a second or knew her personally, you know she was a person worth knowing.
On April 15th, 2016 La was having left sided back pain but failed to tell my dad that she has been in constant pain for the past month. On April 17th, 2016, La was admitted for Pneumonia (infection in the lungs) and Pyelonephritis (infection in the kidneys). We were positive because after all, it is La. She can overcome anything. She fought hard though the odds may have been against her… She continued to live as though nothing was wrong and stayed positive in getting better under her circumstances. Her battle for her life became a rollercoaster for my family in the U.S. as well as her family and friends in the Philippines. We continued to keep our faith alive, prayed constantly, and remained strong. Just the way la would have wanted. A month went by and she showed some progress. She got well enough to be transferred out to a rehab and subacute facility. We remained hopeful, remained strong, and we never gave up.
On May 18th, 2016 at 5:55pm God decided that heaven needed another angel. Though this has been the hardest obstacle my family has had to face, I know La is resting in peace and watching over all of us. We continue to hope, continue to pray, and continue to remember and never forget the wonderful woman who blessed us with her guidance, love, and spirit. No matter how far apart we may be from you, I hope you know that we will always love and miss you every single day until we meet again. Until that day… I LOVE YOU LA! #foreverinourhearts “for those I love, I will sacrifice” #PRAYFORLA <3
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. All costs will help with medical bills and La's funeral in the philippines. She deserved nothing but the BEST! Thank you for your time, prayers, and donations.. God Bless <3
