25K Run to Support the UK Sepsis Trust

Why am I doing this?
If you'd have asked me about sepsis this time last year, I would have said something along the lines of "Oh yeah, that's what you see on the sides of the ambulances", and that's all I could have said. This year, I lost two people I care about, and both illnesses involved Sepsis at some point. Both were taken far too early and starting different chapters in their life that they were excited and proud about. I want to help make people more aware of how severe Sepsis is and to not only support people in being able to fight it but also support people who have suffered from grief from the damage it does. Around the time of Steve's funeral, his daughter encouraged friends and family to donate to the UK Sepsis Trust in his memory, and if I can continue to support that, it would mean a lot.

But why run 25K?
I ran my first 10K this year (just about) and I want to push myself further and 25K seems like a good number to begin 2025. Liam loved challenging himself, especially with fitness, and last New Year's Day, I sat on a gym bench, watching him lift insane weights. This year, in honour of his memory, I want to do something to challenge myself so that I can help others. He'd probably tell me I was daft for doing it and would end up with an injury like he did, but there you go.

What can your donations do?
  • £10 can help educate approximately 50 members of the public on identifying and responding to sepsis, potentially saving lives through increased awareness.
  • £25 covers one hour of telephone support with a trained Support Nurse, providing essential assistance to sepsis survivors and their families.
  • £50 enables the Trust to deliver an awareness talk in schools or local communities, educating individuals about the dangers of sepsis and the importance of early detection.
  • £105 allows the Trust to support one person through recovery, offering resources and guidance to navigate life after sepsis.

If you can't donate:
I understand that December / January is tough financially, but it is also when charities like this need the most support. If all you can give is your time, please take five minutes to learn more about Sepsis through the charity's website: https://sepsistrust.org/support-us/campaigns/sepsis-savvy/
