Helping Adeline
Thank you for your interest in supporting Adeline through her battle with Fanconi Anemia (FA). Fanconi Anemia is an inherited disease that can lead to bone marrow failure and cancer. It is a complex and chronic disorder that is both physically and psychologically demanding. With FA, the body cannot repair DNA damage. This means Adeline needs to be careful around everyday things she is exposed to, like the sun’s rays, the foods she eats, chemicals in clothes, and even the air around her.
Adeline, Age 5
(Diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia in February, 2016)
Kids with FA usually go into bone marrow failure by the time they reach 10 years old thus needing a bone marrow transplant. This is NOT a cure. Those who survive the transplant will often get cancer in their teens and 20's. The average person will not be diagnosed with these cancers until their 60’s, if ever. However, an FA patient cannot handle the high doses of chemo or radiation (it will kill them) needed to fight cancer so they don't have many/if any treatment options. A lot of children with FA do not reach adulthood.
This is Adeline’s reality. This is our reality. Our only hope is to minimize Adeline’s DNA damage while waiting for research to find a cure. We sincerely ask for your patience, understanding and love as we help Adeline conquer this disease. If you are interested in doing more:
Consider donating directly to support Fanconi Research: Currently there are no cures for FA, but research and the promise of medical advancements raise our hopes for Adeline in the future. There have been tremendous scientific advancements in the last few years, but a cure and effective treatments still need to be discovered. Tax deductible donations to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund have helped move Fanconi Anemia from a little-known disease with few options to a disease with treatments that now buy precious time and increased quality of life. When you donate to the Fund your donations also have an impact on the lives of millions as key genetic discoveries indicate potential links between Fanconi Anemia and cancer development in the general population, such as breast, ovarian and pancreatic cancers. Please consider contributing to this worthwhile cause.

Consider donating to support successful bone marrow transplants: In the near future we expect Adeline to require a bone marrow transplant. Adeline is fortunate that her big sister Abigail is a perfect match. Others with Fanconi Anemia or other blood diseases are not as blessed. Be The Match is a nonprofit national bone marrow registry program that’s dedicated to helping every patient get the lifesaving transplant they need. We encourage you to consider joining the bone marrow registry, donating financially or donating cord blood.

Consider shopping through the AmazonSmile program: Amazon customers can elect to donate 0.5% of their purchase to the Fanconi Anemia Research Fund. If you already shop on Amazon, or if you’re looking for the perfect gift for a loved one, we ask that you to shop at smile.amazon.com and choose Fanconi Anemia Research Fund as your charity of choice.
Consider donating directly to Adeline’s medical care and travel expenses: We are at the start of our journey and must plan on frequent and lengthy hospital visits for the rest of her life. The bone marrow transplant alone will require 3-6 months away from our home to receive treatment. We will take temporary leave from work to focus on Adeline and her preparation for surgery and recovery. There are only a few hospitals in the United States that are familiar with treating Fanconi's Anemia. We’ve chosen to receive care at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital (CCH) Fanconi Treatment Center. We are confident that the expert doctors at CCH will help Adeline through her battle with FA. If you would like to donate directly to Adeline’s ongoing medical care and/or travel from Germany to Cincinnati we would be forever grateful. You can route donations through Go Fund Me or post directly to a savings account set up on Adeline's behalf:
