Sid's Medical Bills

Donation protected
My name is Laurie and I am asking for financial support for one of my best friend's, Siddiqi. I know her as, "Sid." Back in early August, she had to undergo knee surgery due to a meniscus tear she sustained while researching a yoga retreat site in Costa Rica. While in the jungle, Sid's foot got caught in a rock, twisting her left knee. As a result, Sid tore her meniscus, damaged cartilage in that knee, and also tore tendons on the right knee.  After consulting with 4 orthopoedic surgeons, it was determined that the best and most successful course of action was to have surgery. The result; a successful surgery (YAY!), AND now...recovery; which has included 2 months of bed rest and then on to physical therapy through the rest of the year. Sid's primary source of income was teaching yoga and she has been unable to do this since early to mid July. Sid was also about to launch a whole new brand which is now on hold until she recovers. The money raised will go to pay for cost of living while Sid is recovering, as well as for the substantial medical cost of surgery and therapy required to get her back on her feet, and the mat.
So let me tell you a little about why this means so much to me. Sid has become one of my closest friends and supported me through so much. When I was a little girl, I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and my relationship to my body was a difficult one wrought with self-hatred and poor body image, resulting in decades of anorexia. I started working with Sid doing yoga, which not only increased my physical strength, but also my emotional and mental strength. She cheered me on when I thought I could not do one more asana. She helped me begin to see having arthritis in a different way; as my guide, teacher, and friend. Sid has been with me during tears, laughter, and the pain of arthritis flares when I could barely get out of bed. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to support her the way she has supported me.
I am blessed to call Sid a friend and mentor. She is a gift to all her know her, lights up a room, and loved by so many. The other thing I know about Sid is that she is incredibly strong and likes to try every possible thing SHE can do, before asking for help. Even getting this campaign going took a little coaxing and encouragement ;). Her mantra these days, "I am humbled."
So I am asking you to please consider supporting her by donating to this campaign. She and I sat down and went over what the total amount would be, and got to $37,000. This will give her time and space not only to rest and heal, but also pay all the bills coming in. Any amount helps and I can guarantee you it will be received with gratitude and love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart; and I know hers, too!

With Deepest Gratitude,
