25th Birthday Charity Sky Dive
Hello Everyone!
My name is Taraa and I am turning the scary age of 25 in April this year.
To celebrate the milestone of turning a quarter of a century, I thought why not do something I have always wanted to do, and go sky diving!
In true fashion of me, I wanted to give to others and raise money for a charity which is very personal and close to my family and my heart.
To give a little backstory, my mum was diagnosed with a Benign Brain Tumour in 2014 and went through a very vigorous operation which resulted in the doctors not being able to fully remove the tumour due to it being pressing against the carotid artery.
After a long few months in hospital due to complications, my mum finally was discharged and brought home for a comfortable recovery!
In 2018, on my mums annual MRI scan, they noticed the tumour had grown and was now pressing against her optical nerve. As a result on this, my mum went through 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy in hopes to zap the tumour.
The radiotherapy reduced the size of the tumour however, the tumor has not disolved completely. It now sits dormant in her head.
Which brings us to now, my mum is on all types of medication to make sure her body still functions. She’s thriving with life and living with a sleeping tumour in her head.
My mum wouldn’t be where she in now without the amazing consultancy and support from the Neurology and Neurosurgery Hospital in Holborn which has been with her since 2014. The staff were incredible, made her feel as comfortable as she could be and supported the family. Which is why I am raising money for The National Hospital For Neurology and Neurosurgery Development Foundation.
This charity is linked to the hospital in which my mother had her procedures.
I am jumping for my mother, but also for the millions of families who are affected by brain tumours every year.
Any contributions would be much appreciated and I hope my story has inspired you to talk more about brain tumours.
Much Love,
Taraa xx
