Scholarship Fund for Nafset Chenib

Donation protected
This is Nafset. She is 28, from Adygei, Russia. And one month ago she was accepted to Manhattan School of Music, class of Maitland Peters, one of the best vocal teachers in New York City.
Nafset has been visually impaired from childhood, but that has not stopped her from mastering her vocal career. She’s a highly recognized Russian Soprano, who has performed with several choirs and orchestras, including the chamber orchestra of the “Bolshoy Theatre”, the World children choir of UNESCO and the chamber orchestra “Moscow Virtuosoes” under Vladimir Spivakov. Not to mention numerous other local orchestras from Krasnodar and St.Petersburg. Her repertoire ranges from classical opera singing to jazz.

She can sing in Russian, English, German, French, Italian, Spanish and Latin. And she also speaks several of these languages freely.

One of her greatest experiences was to sing at the Closing Ceremony of XI Winter Paralympic Games that was held in Sochi, Russia in 2014.

One would think that Nafset has already reached top level of her singing but that’s not what Nafset is about. She always strives to perfection. This is what she writes about her acceptance to Mahnattan School of Music:
“I received quite good musical education in Russia, but still I’m working on myself and I want to develop further, as from my point-of-view self-development is the most important thing in life. My acceptance to Manhattan School of Music is really important to me as I have been interested in American vocal school for a long time and find it leading all over the world nowadays.
At first glance one can end up with a conclusion that I already pursue a successful career and that I am quite gifted. I wouldn’t deny it, but my voice has its own dignities and lacks, and I am eager to get rid of those lacks! There are things that need to be fixed and corrected. And I believe MSM is the school where I can continue my personal and professional self-development.  Moreover, after coming back to Russia I would like to share my acquired knowledge and skills with my countrymen, as Russia is in shortage of new knowledge and needs renovation of its vocal pedagogy.”

Nafset has a lot of friends surrounding her and leads a very active social life –performs in a drama theater, sings at charity concerts, runs and last year she even jumped with a parachute! She loves to travel and is quite independent, despite her disability.

3 years ago Nafset’s mother and sister perished in a car accident. She has lost her caretakers, but she has not lost faith in people. Today this amazing young woman needs your help to raise $50 000 to pay for her 1-year professional program at Manhattan School of Music, so that she can become an even better singer than she already is. Total cost of the program is actually $65 000, but Nafset has been granted a scholarship of $15 000 to partially cover her expenses. Her friends will also be donating money, but they will not be able to cover the left-over sum.

Please donate as much as you can and be assured that your money will be well spent.

Thank you on behalf of Nafset and her friends!
