Help diagnose my daughter's illness
Donation protected
My daughter Diana has aged out of my parental insurance policy and has had no medical coverage since October of last year despite applying for Obamacare (and Medicaid, since her working salary is so low despite her recent college degree). Obamacare says she makes too little and has to apply for Medicaid. Medicaid says she makes too much and turned her down.
In short, we are desperate.
Back when she had insurance, Diana had been from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what's wrong with her. As her condition progressed, for us time simply ran out.
In the last few years she has gone from a healthy, energetic, robust young lady to a pain-wracked near-invalid. It started with back spasms and has progressed to nerve pain that comes and goes. On her good days the pain is a 4. On the bad days it's off the charts and she can barely walk. The discs in her back appear to be degenerating. This is causing her to lose hope that she can continue to try to live the productive life of a young adult.
Despite her undiagnosed condition, Diana is a productive working American with what passes for a full-time job these days. She is a temporary office worker, and as such, does not qualify for company insurance. With the current economy and its demands for two years of experience for any entry-level actual full-time job, Diana is pretty much SOL.
She has appealed the latest Medicaid denial just today, despite applying for insurance in Autumn of 2015 and again every time they turn her down. Of course, her uninsured status is going to kick off a financial penalty under Obamacare that she will have to appeal seperately.
She needs medicine (maybe Lyrica, which isn't a painkiller but has been shown to help with nerve pain). She needs a real diagnosis, probably from a nerve specialist. I suspect fibromyalgia or maybe lupus from her symptoms and know how hard it is to get a diagnosis, having had a friend go through a similar struggle for a decade before she was finally diagnosed and treated for her own illness.
ALL money raised will be used for Diana's doctors and treatments. We hope to be able to get her to the Mayo Clinic one day when she has actual insurance, but in the meanwhile, every uninsured test and medication and doctor's visit for Diana is out of our reach financially. If there is money left over after paying the bills to get Diana diagnosed, we will use them to pay the medical bills of other uninsured but sick people, or refund your money to you (your choice).
I've always believed in paying it forward. If you are fortunate enough to be in a position to help my daughter, you will not only earn my undying love and respect, but more importantly you will be doing something really good for a girl who could be your own daughter.
If you can't donate, I understand. Please SHARE this so others can help. That's help enough today.
If you're a doctor and have any suggestions, please email me. Likewise, if you have a lead on a solid job Diana can do that will give actual insurance benefits with the job, PLEASE EMAIL. We don't want handouts. Hands-up would be the best of all worlds.
Thank you for your time in reading all this.
