Help The Moenning Family

Donation protected
Positive Programs for Families has a family in need.  We received this letter from a local family.  We've met with them and everything they said is true.  They are hard working family that just has had a lot of bad luck.  Please make a donation of any amount to help them get on their feet again.  Thank you.

First, our story:

My husband Jim and have been married 18 years this summer.  He's an excellent husband and daddy and works hard to provide for our family.  He carries much of the household duties because my health limits me physically.  He works full-time as a respiratory therapist. I work part-time as a private-duty home care registered nurse.  We have been homeschooling since the very beginning and truly enjoy it.

Homeschooling allows us to teach when the girls are best able to learn and offer them rest when they are struggling with their health issues  Jim teaches history and Bible.  I teach all the other subjects.  The girls have excellent grandparent support when we need to work. Our daughters, Elisabeth (14) and Hannah (9) are willing helpers and are learning homemaking skills quickly, but they are also limited in what they can do because of their health issues.

Jim is the "healthiest" out of all four of us, but he deals with long-term asthma, allergies, arthritis, sleep apnea and psoriasis of his hands.

I (Paula) was diagnosed with fibromyalgia (27 years ago), severe food allergies (16 years ago) stage 3 colon cancer while pregnant with our younger daughter (10 years ago) and lyme's disease (6 years ago).  I've had a total of 11 surgical procedures including some for other diagnoses (too much to list).  I am in chronic constant pain with daily fatigue.  I'm also having complex neurological issues that the doctors have not been able to resolve.  The colon surgery took 24 inches of my colon and eliminated even more food choices.  The colon surgery also took 30 of my abdominal lymph nodes causing severe lymphedema (30 pounds of fluid in my abdomen that has not responded well to treatment) I am also very fragile with hypoglycemia (a low blood sugar disorder).

Elisabeth has complex chronic health issues (food allergies and hypoglycemia) some genetic and some resulting from an accidental lead poisoning as a toddler.  The doctor states that the lead is still stored in her bone tissues and organs (no longer in her blood) causing long-term damage that delayed her walking and speech.
She still has low-muscle tone issues as well as short-term memory loss.

Hannah, by the grace of God, survived the colon cancer surgery while I was 2 months pregnant with her. She had digestive issues as a baby that were complex and continue today.  As a toddler, she would crawl on the floor and say that her knees hurt. At age 4, she was diagnosed with lyme's disease and at age 7 she went through a terribly difficult 1 1/2 years with an intestinal ileus. She has since recovered but continues to deal with hour-by-hour discomforts/many other issues related to lyme's.  She is going for weekly treatments for these issues. She is also hypoglycemic.

Secondly, our praises:
Thousands of prayers have been said for our family.  We have been prayed over by church leaders and friends many times.  We have had excellent support from family and friends.  Many people have ministered to us.  We know this trial is not caused by the Lord, but He is allowing it for our greater growth.  We pray that we have been a witness for Him and thank Him for the countless ways that He has sustained and provided for our family.  We thank the Lord for the "mini" ministries He has enabled our family to do from home and pray that we will get healthy and serve Him in new ways, according to His will.

 Lastly, the needs:
Currently, our most urgent need would be a second family vehicle.  We both work at locations off the bus lines.  We usually have 2 appointments per week, most them off the bus line.

Other needs would be living room furniture. A new recliner is especially important because that is where I need to sleep most of the night.  Our bed is also becoming a need.

Assistance with home school expenses, especially as Elisabeth will be homeschooling in high school next year.

 We would appreciate prayer:
- to bring God glory through the trials
- that Jim will not need to get a second job because he is so greatly needed at home and he is already so exhausted
- grace for all four us to continue to endure the trials with godly joy
- to pay off our medical debt and rebuild our savings
- that our grocery bill for the food allergy foods would become more manageable.

In His Loving care,
