Baton Rouge Needs The Giving Spirit of The Volunteer State

The images and stories coming out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana as a result of historic and widespread flooding are heartbreaking and difficult to fully grasp. Many thousands of families are suffering and doing their best to work through extremely difficult circumstances. While the damage assessment process is currently underway, the most recent official estimate from Baton Rouge is that over 50,000 homes may have been flooded based on early estimates. In addition, 7,000 businesses employing 74,000 people have been impacted and disrupted by this epic weather event. In flooding events of this magnitude, there is also significant damage to public infrastructure including roads, bridges, public utilities and the basis for daily life that we often take for granted. As the full measure of this catastrophe is taken, the number of families and businesses impacted will likely continue to grow.

Here in Tennessee, we are no strangers to major flooding from the banks of the Mississippi River in the West to the mountains and valleys of Tennessee to the East. In Middle Tennessee, few will ever forget the May 2010 flood that devastated Nashville and Middle Tennessee in much the same way Baton Rouge has been effected now. Tennesseans understand the challenges the people of Baton Rouge and surrounding areas are facing.

As such, members of the AGC of Tennessee have suggested that we set up a GoFundMe account to collect money to send to the local AGC chapter located in Baton Rouge. We have been in contact with their staff and they welcome any funds we can raise that they will then utilize to help people in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. Let’s show our colleagues in Louisiana what the “Volunteer Spirit” is all about and how our association can come to the aid of a sister chapter in challenging circumstances. Please make your donation today!

All money collected between Friday September 2, 2016 and September 23, 2016 will be distributed in full to the Louisiana AGC chapter in Baton Rouge. We will report back to members of the AGC of Tennessee how the money is used by the Louisiana AGC chapter.
