Adoption - Help Bring Our Kids Home!

Hi everyone! We are Wade and Laura Betters, and we live near Bangor Maine. We have two children, Micah (9) and Lily (6), who make us laugh everyday. We LOVE our family time together; playing outside, cooking together, doing dance party cleaning, and running the kids to their sports and music lessons.


In the past year God has given us the desire to add to our family. We take God's direction to take care of the orphans very seriously. We have been sponsoring two children through Compassion and World Vision for several years, but it hasn't felt that it was enough. That being said, we feel as though we are being lead to adopt a special needs child from China. There are so many children with special needs who need a loving and caring home. We hope to find and bring home a child as soon as possible.


We started out hoping to change the life of a little girl, but already she is forever changing ours. From our then five-year-old telling me how much she wanted something that was in a store, then turning to me and stating, "But we wouln't waste our money on something like that when we can adopt." To my nine-year-old son telling me that he didn't need anything for Christmas so that we could save our money for the adoption. We see them so excited to effect the life of someone else and looking outside of themselves. We've also seen God move in the hearts of our dearest friends and family as they have rallied around us with their love, support and finacial sacrifice so that we can see our daughter come home. This has meant so much to us!


We have already begun the adoption processs and know that it can be a long road to travel. Expenses are enormous and we are currently struggling to find additional funding to proceed with the next phase of our adoption. To date we have spent approximately $7500.00 for application fees for both our home study and our adoption agency, the cost of the home study, adoption education classes, medical check-ups, passports, and agency contract fees. We will be spending approximately another $1000 soon to apply to USCIS (the immigration deptartment) and have our fingerprints done. Our home study is near completetion (just waiting for the final draft to be completed). We have compiled most of our paperwork for our dossier (the compliation of doccuments to be sent to the Chinese government for their approval of our adoption). Once we receive approval, we will then enter the referral process, when we will be matched with our daughter!


In order to submit our dossier for approval we need to raise $6600. This is such an important step that will move us so much closer to meeting our daughter. We can NOT move forward until these funds are raised. Please, if you feel lead to help us in anyway (through donations, prayer, sharing our link, etc.) do so knowing that it is so greatly appreciated and you will be blessed for it! All of the donations will go directly to the cost of the adoption! Also, please know that we fully intend on "paying it forward". Once our adoption is completed, Wade and I want to continue our adoption savings account (we have money taken from our paychecks every week into a special account) and will use this account to help fund other's in their adoption journey.
