Lanaiyah’s New battle with kidney cancer

Never would I think in a million years I would be writing one of these for one of our children. Most of you are familiar with our daughter Lanaiyah, she is such a bright spirited little girl, who was diagnosed last year this same time with Type One Diabetes.... something she has to deal with for life.... we accepted it, learned how to manage it and she has been amazing adjusting to dealing with it on a daily basis. At our last visit to her endocrinologists, her provider was concerned upon doing a belly exam.... they were thinking her liver was enlarged and protruding, so she scheduled us an ultrasound. Yesterday morning we went to the appointment expecting to get it done and take her to school, but unfortunately it wasn’t that simple.... they found a mass where her right kidney was, the mass being large enough to where they couldn’t even locate her kidney. After more testing she was diagnosed yesterday with kidney cancer... they are believing (90%) the tumor is a Wilms tumor, we were planning surgery this week, but after reviewing her tests further they are sending us back for another CT scan as the think the cancer may have spread by her heart and they also located nodules in her lungs.... if the CT does show that is the case, she will have to start chemo for six weeks to minimize the chance of it spreading more during surgery and causing more damage. Currently the mass around her kidney is the size of a smallcantaloupe, the DR said it is half the size of her belly.... if we are able to go ahead with surgery Lanaiyah will be looking at about 30+weeks of chemotherapy. This has been devastating news for our family. We need to be with our daughter as much as we can and at least for the next few weeks I will not be able to work as we start treatment and or surgery, chemo for us is pretty scary with her already being a diabetic.... it is going to make it a bit harder on her little body.... we will keep everyone updated on her progress and appreciate any support we can get during these times..... please keep our baby in your prayers.... we’re still just trying to process everything at this time and make the best plan for our family to battle this together!!! Thank you everyone for your positivity and prayers, she is such an important piece of our life! How much is one supposed to handle or deal with? At only 4 she doesn’t have a care in the world right now.... I just am hopeful she stays her cheerful little self
