Hi Everyone!
I am Imani Diggs. I am a 16 year old scholar at FDA II and I am currently ending my Junior year of high school. I am a scholar who is involved with my school's student government( 11th grade respresentative), vice president of the book club, I am in a painting extra curricular, a peer tutor, and I have also maintained a cummulative 90% gpa over the last three years of my high school career. Outside of school I am involved with Songs of Solomon, a communtiy choir that teaches music theory, classical, inspirational, and gospel music, and specializes in operatically training youthful voices.
This year one of my best friends encouraged me to look into an abroad program called AFS. She went to Japan for eight weeks freshman year and absolutely loved it! I soon began to research this program and I instantly fell in love with it's tightly knitted community, the support of those who volunteer for the program and those who have actually traveled with this program. After communicating with them heavily, I decided to go ahead and apply to their program. I chose to attend the six week Thailand community service program. This program allows me to stay with a host family, fully dive into Thai culture, learn their language, and help serve their communtiy. I am honored that I have been accepted into this program, and I know and believe with all my heart that this experience will humble and change me for the better. I love to help people, and this experience will only add to the deep passion that I already possess for helping others in any way. The AFS coordinators have scheduled my departure for July 8, 2016 so I do not have much time left, but I know that with the support of others I will be perfectly fine financially, emotionally, and mentally. I am aiming for the donations to be in the last week of June because I must pay them before my departure. After calculating the costs, I found out that if I could get 147 people to donate $50, I would be set. Plus, all of the donations received will go straight to the AFS program so that my bill can be paid in full. This trip is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I know that this chance to have my light shine in a foreign place was not by mistake, and I do not intend to let it slip through my fingers. I appreciate all of you who took/will take the time to read my bio and those who will donate and spread the word of my travels. I vow to make this trip as memorable as possible and I will give my all each and everyday to touch the lives of those who I will encounter on my journey.
Thank you in advance!
