My name is Cindy Haslam. I have a good friend of 25 years that has recently started a journey with Cancer. Julie Baker is a fun loving, kind, generous friend, mom, sister and daughter. My sister in law went through this a few years ago so we are aware of the toll this takes physically, emotionally, and financially on the patient and those that love them. We want to help Julie in any way we can, and so we are choosing to do all we can to help ease her burden financially.
Julie was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer on March 19th. She underwent surgery on March 31st and her condition was increased to a stage 3 due to the size of the tumor (over 5.5 centimeters) and the aggressiveness of the cancer. She has both ductal and lobular cancer.
She had a port catheter put in on April 25th and starts 4 months of chemo therapy on May 3rd. After that she'll have a month off to recuperate before starting 6 weeks of radiation. Her attitude is very positive and she continues to poke fun about having no hair and carrying a "barf bag" with her. She also continuously reminds us of a good friend bringing her Chinese food after her first surgery. She cracked her fortune cookie open and it said "Your sense of humor allows you to glide through these difficult times." We all know she's tough however, her doctors don't feel she'll be able to work as much as she will need to in order to make ends meet.
Julie has good insurance but her deductible is significantly high. As most of you know she's a single mother and the only source of income. Julie is in the toughest fight of her life but her spirits are high and she's very aware of what she's going to endure over the next 8+ months.
We are hoping to raise money to cover her high deductibles. She will need help paying 8,000 out of her pocket and help with living expenses. It would mean so much to us and to Julie to ease her stress over money so she can focus on healing and raising her son. We are so grateful to each person that we reach and who wants to reach out to Julie.
