Medical expenses for Kaleia

Many of you may know about the recent scare with our dog Kaleia and how heartbreaking it's been watching something we love so much go through so many ups and downs in such a short period of time. For anyone unaware, my name is Brianna Zucco, Kaleia's mom. On June 24th we noticed a slight limp with Kaleias back left paw but saw no injury, the next morning checking to see if anything popped up we came to find it a bit irritated but nothing too out of the ordinary. We gave her Benadryl for the fever thinking some rest and cleaning of the paw would have her running around again in no time, unfortunately that was not the case. The next morning once again checking to see how it was doing, her paw was twice the size as the night before and one of her two nails was barely hanging on, so we rushed her to the local vet. Upon our visit we had some X-rays done to get a closer look and came to terms that she was bitten by a BROWN RECLUSE spider and with in three days the venom had eaten away at her tissue pretty severally and we were going to have to do laser therapy twice a week to speed up the healing process in hopes to save one of her toes. Two days later we went back for the second laser therapy and notice no progress but was still hopeful for a full recovery. The next few days Kaleia stopped eating and drinking completely, causing her to vomit multiple times a day and not allowing the antibiotics to fully work out the infection. We made another visit to the vet for some blood work and fluids to be pumped into her, but unfortunately nothing changed over the next two days. By this point kaleia, our 90lb dog was down to about 73lbs with difficulty being able to see. We kept her at the vet over night for an emergency surgery to get rid of the infection in her foot causing us To make the choose of amputation, thinking this will be the start of the recovery we have been trying so hard to achieve. This morning getting ready for work, we received a phone call from the vet informing us that Kaleia was only getting worse, she was still not eating or drinking and her sight was completely not there, her front legs stopped working and he suggested to pick her up immediately and take her to a neurologist to get a better diagnoses to what it can possibly be. Seeing Kaleia in the condition she was in this morning was one of the scariest feelings we've had yet, we didn't think she would make it through the car ride. Once we arrived at Southern California specialty veterinary center, they immediately took her and asked permission to get her stable enough to continue. Unfortunately on top of the long nights of worrying and praying we have also come to a financial issue. In the almost two weeks of constant vet visits and trying anything to help our Kaleia we have spent about $1,900 with no progress of recovery and have no other option but to ask for help. Kaleia was finally diagnosed with Tetanus, a very rare disease causing all of her muscles to lock, not allowing her to open her mouth (lockjaw) or move her legs to walk. Because it is so rare the speciality hospital we found is the only place in the area carrying the correct treatment costing us another $2,000-$3,000, which we unfortunately do not have. Kaleia is currently admitted in emergency care for the next three days, giving us just about that much time to come up with the money to be able to get her back home with us and continue the treatment she needs to ease her of all this pain she has been experiencing. If you know me you know how much it kills me to ask anyone for help, but it's come to only one thing and that's getting my baby back to the healthy sweet girl she is and back home where we all miss her dearly. Thank you so much for taking the time to hear about Kaleias journey, anything helps!
