Help Trey recover from medical debt
Donation protected
My brother, Trey Goff, has had his life savings completely wiped out in the past year and is currently 20,000 dollars in medical debt. Trey has recurring aspiration pneumonia without remission since October. It has become drug resistant to levaquin which is the typical treatment for pneumonia. In 9 months, Trey has been hospitalized 4 times, had 6 ER visits and 1 ambulance ride. He's having surgery this week with the hope that it will stop the cycle of recurrent pneumonia.
Trey lives now with about 40% lung function on a daily basis. In May, Trey was found in his home with with a 105 fever and hallucinating. After an ambulance ride, he was admitted to the ICU barely breathing. The doctors said if he had gone another hour without help, he would have been brain dead from lack of oxygen. He had double pneumonia and strep throat. They diagnosed him with microcytic anemia and hypogammaglobulinemia which has weakened his immune system to the point where he can no longer beat the pneumonia.
Yesterday, Trey spiked another fever and immediately drove himself to the ER where they diagnosed him with pneumonia and admitted him. The doctors were waiting to perform his surgery until he had time to heal from the most recent ICU hospitalization. However, now they are of the opinion that Trey will never heal completely without contracting pneumonia again and must proceed with the surgery regardless of his current case of pneumonia. The plan is for Trey to have a surgery tomorrow called nissen fundoplication. Basically they will take the upper part of his stomach and wrap it around his esophagus to take the place of the valve that isn't working and letting his lungs fill with fluid.
Trey has already depleted his life savings of about 10,000 dollars paying medical bills he's incurred since October and has another 20,000 of medical bills outstanding (I have included the rough estimate of the cost of this surgery in this number). Not only has his health issues completely destroyed his quality of life, but now he has no savings and an astonomical number of bills he faces. Trey is so lucky to have a job that is extremely understanding of his health situation and supportive of the time he needs off to recuperate but it would take him years to pay off this debt without saving for an personal expenses (car issues, home repairs) that may arise.
Trey is a wonderful person, as so many of his friends and family can attest to. This truly could not have happened to a kinder, more lovely person. He needs help getting back on his feet so that he can recover not only physically but financially from the debilitating disease.
Please donate if you can, share and pray for my brother. He still has a long road ahead of him. Thank you.
