Kathy's Battle with ALS

Kathy Sak -- wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.
In September of 2013, Kathy’s dream came true – she adopted her newborn son, Charles Edward Carsen Sak. He became her whole world. Just two months later, Kathy developed an issue with her foot; a seemingly small problem she would never have imagined could change her life.
Christmas of 2013, a time that should have been magical for Kathy and her son, was filled with a devastating reality – Kathy had been diagnosed of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This progressive degeneration of motor neurons leads to deterioration of voluntary muscle action, paralysis and eventually, death.
The medical community has very little to offer ALS patients, but that has not deterred Kathy’s fierce, unwavering determination. She fights each day, hoping something will halt, or better yet, reverse, this evil condition.
Kathy is hoping to become part of several upcoming medical trials aimed at helping those affected by ALS. But Kathy has never been one to wait.
Daily, Kathy continues to fight to keep herself as strong as possible, in hopeful anticipation of participation in these trials.
Determined to leave no stone unturned, she has immersed herself in a network of ALS survivors, all of whom have turned to alternative medical treatment, as traditional medecine has not yet found an answer (http://healthadvocatesworldwide.com/als-lou-gehrigs-disease).
It is widely believed that the build up of toxins and resulting inflammation is one of the causes of the nerve degeneration. Kathy has made a gallant effort to cleanse her body of built up toxins, but this can be a slow and arduous process, fighting a disease that can move at a much quicker pace. Kathy has had a particularly difficult time with the detoxification process, most likley due to her genetic make-up. Kathy has become aware of a innovative detoxification regiment developed by Dr. Daniel Pompa, called the 5R’s of True Cellular Detox and Healing. Dr. Pompa suffers himself from severe difficulty with detoxification, and his regiment appears to be garnering some success. Under this regiment, after identifying and removing the toxic sources, the patient seeks to regenerate cellular membrane, restore cellular energy , and reduce inflammation before reestablishment of methylation. Each step is done with the hope of correcting the problem that exists at the cellular level. But these non-traditional medical treatments are not covered by insurance.
Today, Kathy is bound to a wheelchair, making simple, everyday tasks a challenge.
Her spirits remain high through it all, but several things weigh heavy on her mind, and treatments that are not covered by insurance have moved the financial burden of pursuing these treatments to the top of the list. Medical expenses have taken a toll, as special equipment is required for Kathy to move about her home and travel to her medical appointments. Kathy requires daily care for both herself and 2-year-old Charlie.
We call on you today – family, friends and any kind souls willing to help our dear Kathy – to help us take some of this financial burden off of her shoulders, so she can concentrate on staying as strong as possible for as long as possible, while awaiting a cure. No amount is too small.
We also ask for your continued prayers, as this is not a battle she should have to fight alone.
Kathy’s life is 100% occupied by her battle with ALS and 2-year-old Charlie. We don't know what the future holds and how long this uncertainty will last, but we know we need your help. Kathy needs your help.
