On Mother's Day 2016, my dad had a massive heart attack and went into cardiac arrest and shock. He had 100% blockage in his frontal main artery and his heart stopped. My husband, 4 year old son, and I had just left my parent's house after a wonderful Mother's Day dinner. It had been a great day. I was giving my son a bath and my husband yelled for me to come to the kitchen. He said, "Your mom called. Your dad is having a heart attack. They are taking him to the hospital." I hurried to meet my mom at the hospital. As I walked into the emergency room, someone quickly led me past my dad and into a waiting room. I remember seeing what looked like 20 people in there with him. Come to find out, I walked past my dad as his heart had stopped, they were giving him CPR and about to shock his heart. Although it seems a lifetime ago, I remember that moment exactly. The doctors did not think he would survive. In fact, we were told 8 out of 10 people would die after suffering such a traumatic medical emergency. The cardiologist did a stint and inserted a device called an impella that helped to reduce the work load of his heart. While the impella was in, he had to remain completed sedated. If it shifted out of place, it would not work properly. Here we are, 30 days later - 30 days in ICU. My dad is alive. Not only is his body working, his brain is functioning like normal. He has a long road ahead of him. We are ecstatic he is doing better and on his way to recovery. Once he is released from ICU, he will be moved to a short-term recovery facility for rehabilitation. As you can imagine, this has taken a financial toll on my parents. The surgery, length of stay in ICU and the rehabilitation in a good care facility will be very expensive. We want the best care for my dad. At this point we are looking for your donations to help with his medical expenses. Please kindly consider our request, donate and forward this to your friends and family. We plan to use the funds to pay his hospital bills and for continuing his treatment in a rehabilitation facility. Please keep our family in your prayers. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!
