Lily’s fight

This little girl is my beautiful little granddaughter Lily McGowan who was diagnosed with severe dilated cardiomyopathy at 6 months old.

Lily who is 2 1/2 now went into cardiac arrest 2 days ago and stopped breathing. The ambulance was called and they were able to get Lily breathing again . Lily has been taken to Westmead Paediatric Intensive Care Unit where she crashed again and stopped breathing . CPR was performed and thankfully Lily started breathing again . Her pulse kept dropping so she has been placed on a ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation).A machine that pumps the blood for her so her heart basically doesn’t need to work.

Lily’s parents Samantha (my daughter) Lewis (my son in law) and my 5 year old grandson Elias found out yesterday that Lily will be going to The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne on Monday by Careflight and she will have a LVAD machine implanted (a left ventricular assist device) whilst she waits for a heart transplant.

Lily , her parents and brother will all have to relocate to Melbourne asap for anywhere between 6 months to 3 years whilst Lily has open heart surgery for the LVAD and awaits for her special gift to be able to live a normal life again.

As you can imagine Lily and her family will have a long and difficult road ahead . It could be months or years ,before Lily will get a donor heart . If you are in a position to do so please donate or share this link .
