Evelyn Torres's Medical Fund

Those of us who have the pleasure of knowing Evelyn Torres, know that she is a strong, loving, caring woman who has always led a helping hand to those who have needed it. She shares a warm smile with everyone who comes across her path and spreads her laughter and joy wherever she goes, even when most of the time she is the one going through difficult times.  Her biggest love and motivation, her daughter, was diagnosed with Ataxia.  A rare neurological condition that affects her motor skills.  Due to the fact that not too many doctors know of this condition, those who attend her daughter are all out of town and don’t take health insurance. Making every doctor’s visit costly; but as any responsible and loving parent would do, Evelyn has always made all types of sacrifices to make sure, her baby, as she calls her, receives the medical attention she so desperately needs.   Her mom is a 4-time Cancer survivor, and Evelyn has always been by her side. Her husband of over 20 years, lost the business they lived off from, and now is unable to work also due to a medical condition.  While helping her loved ones through all of these situations, and being everyone’s support system, Evelyn was diagnosed with breast cancer.  After her diagnosis she’s had several surgeries and gone through chemotherapy and radiation; and of course all the terrible side effects that come with that. As if all this wasn’t enough, Evelyn now finds herself hospitalized with a severe combination of bronquitis and asthma at the Dr. Susoni Hospital in Arecibo, PR. while still battling her Cancer.

As anybody that has been through any type of medical treatment knows, the doctor’s co-pays, medicines, treatments, transportation and basic everyday necessities can all add up very quickly.  Evelyn’s expenses have drastically increased making her situation difficult, and not allowing her the peace of mind she needs to focus on her recuperation.  This is why with great humbleness we are asking you all to help Evelyn and her family in these difficult times.  If you find it in your heart to help this amazing woman, it will be greatly appreciated. Like the Lord himself taught us: “And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward”. Aquellos de nosotros que tenemos el placer de conocer a Evelyn Torres, sabemos que ella es una mujer fuerte, amorosa y cariñosa que siempre ayuda a todos los que necesitan de ella.  Ella comparte su cálida sonrisa con todo aquel que cruza su camino y derrama risas y alegría donde quiera que va, aun cuando la mayor parte del tiempo, es ella la que a traviesa situaciones difíciles.  Su amor y motivación más grande, su hija, fue diagnosticada con Ataxia.  Una extraña condición neurológica que afecta grandemente las destrezas motoras del paciente.  Debido a que muy pocos doctores conocen de la condición, siempre tienen que ir a pueblos lejanos para las citas médicas y estos doctores en su mayoría no aceptan planes médicos, haciendo cada visita, una costosa.  Pero como cualquier madre responsable y amorosa, Evelyn hace todo tipo de sacrificios para asegurarse de que su bebé, como cariñosamente le dice, reciba la atención medica que tanto necesita.  Su señora madre ha sido sobreviviente de Cáncer en 4 ocasiones, en cada una de ellas, Evelyn ha estado a su lado.  El esposo de Evelyn, con el cual lleva casada más de 20 años, perdió el negocio del cual ellos vivían y ahora se encuentra atravesando una situación médica también, lo cual le impide trabajar.  Mientras Evelyn estuvo ayudando a todos sus familiares y siendo el sistema de apoyo de ellos, ella fue diagnosticada con Cáncer de Seno.  Luego del diagnóstico ella ha sido operada en varias ocasiones, ha recibido quimioterapia y radioterapia, y con ello también todos los efectos secundarios que ese tipo de tratamiento conlleva.  Como si todo esto no fuera suficiente, Evelyn se encuentra actualmente hospitalizada en la Clínica Doctor Susoni del pueblo de Arecibo con una asma y bronquitis crónica, mientras aun continua su batalla con el Cáncer.

Como cualquier persona que ha tenido algún tipo de tratamiento sabe, los deducibles, los costos de medicina, tratamientos, gastos de transportación y las necesidades básicas diarias rápidamente aumentan.  Los gastos de Evelyn y su familia han aumentado drásticamente haciendo su situación una difícil, no permitiéndole tener la tranquilidad necesaria para concentrarse en su recuperación.  Es por esto que con gran humildad estamos solicitando ayuda para esta Hermosa familia en un momento tan difícil para ellos.  Si encuentran en su Corazón el deseo de ayudar a esta extraordinaria mujer, le serán inmensamente agradecido.  Como el Señor mismo nos enseñó: “Y cualquiera que dé a uno de estos pequeñitos un vaso de agua fría solamente, por cuanto es discípulo, de cierto os digo que no perderá su recompensa”.
