#RunforJocky

Shane ‘Jocky’ Wilson was not only the chairman of my amateur club, Saddleworth Rangers, he was a fantastic man and held in high regard amongst anyone that knew him. Jocky had been battling cancer for a few years when it was decided that a fundraiser #RideForJocky would be put on to help pay for any new treatments that may be needed. After a superb effort from the 30+ riders I was inspired on the New Years Eve of 2020 to run a total of 150 miles in the month of January 2021 in a bid to raise extra funds and play my part in helping with the treatments. #RunForJocky had started. The news was passed onto Jocky that day, however sadly later on that evening he passed away. Everyone at the club, around the local area and across the amateur rugby league game were shocked and saddened by the news. This not only ignited my fire, but fuelled it and has pushed me on massively so far. It was decided that the money will go towards helping Jockys family. Karen, Freddy and Francesca. Hopefully it’ll ease the pain a little of the void that Jocky has left. My initial target of £150 has been smashed and has left me blown away with people’s kindness, generosity and support, especially in the middle of a global pandemic. In response to this, I’ve decided to up my mileage from 150miles to 200miles. I’ve been humbled so far with the support I’ve had with donations and lads helping me out and running with me. I’ve been in some dark places during these runs with the dark, cold and wet all playing their part, however none of this would have been a patch on what Jocky has been through and I know he would have done the same for ANY person associated with Saddleworth Rangers.
