Owen Hughes Memorial Fund

Like most families up and down the country, we were looking forward to Christmas more than usual this year after a difficult and challenging 2020. Unfortunately we were not blessed this Christmas. 

On Christmas Day, we had to say a sudden goodbye to our beautiful and gentle Owen, just 16 years old. Owen was found unresponsive in his room on the evening of 23rd December. Following valiant efforts by family members and paramedics, Owen's heart was restarted and he was transferred to Warrington Hospital ICU. Despite the efforts of everyone at the hospital, nothing could be done to save Owen and he passed away on Christmas Day. 

A beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew and cousin - Owen was the light of our lives and brought joy and life to any room he graced. Beyond his natural charm, he was multi-talented with unlimited potential in anything he put his mind to. He recently began a Catering course at college and hoped to go on to study I.T, keeping as many doors open as possible for his career. Ahead of any academic achievements however, Owen always put the thoughts of others first and would make sure that anybody who appeared to be on their own had an honest friend in him. Upon finishing college, he wanted to fulfil the lifelong family dream of moving to Wales (their ultimate happy place) following years of holiday visits and countless memories. 

Owen's loss leaves us with immeasurable grief and an unfillable hole. John, Cheryle and the family would like to pay special thanks to all of the wonderful NHS and emergency services staff who tended to Owen, from the first responders and paramedics to all the staff at Warrington Hospital ICU. The support given to the family during this unthinkable tragedy has been second to none. At this time, the factors leading to Owen's passing are unknown and all the relevant professionals are working tirelessly to figure this out. Funeral arrangements are yet to be made but due to COVID restrictions, this will be a strictly close family affair. We hope to be able to host a celebration of Owen's life in the month's to come when conditions allow and the family have had time to grieve privately. 

The Owen Hughes Memorial Fund has been set up to support the family in carrying on Owen's legacy and fulfilling as many of his wishes as possible. No donation is too small and all love and comments will be eternally cherished.
