Help with Dianne's Medical Bills
Donation protected
My mother, Dianne Levy was diagnosed with cancer on Mother's Day. The cancer fills her torso. We, her family and friends, decided to create a GO FUND ME site to offer a way for others to make a financial contribution to help Mom defray the costs of her medical treatment and address associated money demands, since she had to stop working upon her diagnosis. Thanks so much for your generosity. No amount of offering is too small and all will be greatly appreciated.
Mom has also set up a Caring Bridge site to allow her to easily post information about her progress for those who may want to keep up with her. You can also post communications to her on the Caring Bridge site by searching for Dianne Levy, as well as, send cards and letters to 3720 Pleasant Valley Road, Cosby, Tennessee, 37722.
More information about my mother, Dianne, follows.
Dianne has lived in Cosby, Tennessee for 40 years where she raised me. I am a doctor of biological oceanography currently living on Vancouver Island, British Columbia with my 3 year-old son, Sam, and husband, Ben, who is employed with the Canadian Coast Guard.
Dianne’s employment history includes working for the US Census Bureau, operating an Airbnb and selling home-made granola. She consulted on non-profit development, management and grant-writing, served for 10 years on the Board of the Appalachian Community Fund and was a founder and Board member of CEDNET (Community Economic Development Network of East Tennessee). She directed SafeSpace for 19 years, a battered women’s comprehensive program, serving 3 rural East Tennessee counties, was a founding member of the TN Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Southeast Coalition Against Domestic Violence. She was the training coordinator for the Tennessee Coalition Against Domestic Violence and was instrumental in ensuring that the Order of Protection was brought into general use throughout the state.
In addition to managing a shelter, Dianne created alternative economic opportunities for women who left their battering relationships and was a leader in the areas of economic justice, individual development accounts, micro-enterprise development and entrepreneurship during her 4 year tenure on the Tennessee Network for Community Economic Development Board.
Dianne was a “foodie” before it became hip and over 40 years has sourced her food- from eggs to meat to milk and vegetables- raised her own garden and canned her own vegetables for the enjoyment of family, friends and visitors to her home.
Among the awards Dianne has received over the years are:
• Sui Juris Award, TN Task Force Against Domestic Violence (1992 )
• Mary Renshaw Award, TN Task Force Against Domestic Violence (1995)
• Jefferson Award, American Institute for Public Service (1993)
• Above and Beyond Award, East TN Foundation (1993)
• Certificate of Appreciation, United States Department of Justice (1992)
