Dig a Well in Sierra Leone

Donation protected
On our recent trip to Sierra Leone post Ebola March 2016 we travelled to the remote village of Mosondo Bompeh Chedom of my late mother Hawa Sesay. Although I grew up in Sierra Leone and spent my childhood in the capital of Freetown my beloved mother never allowed us to make the treacherous journey through rough terrain and deep forestry. Mosondo has no more than 200 dwellers who were eagerly awaiting our arrival. The people are warm and inviting who live simple but fulfilling lives mostly depending mainly on the sweet potatoes amongst other produce they cultivate.

Having no access to clean water means they face immense difficulty in day to day life and in successfully farming their crop.

The well pictured above dried up many years ago forcing the villagers to walk several miles to the nearest water source, a river which is dirty and shared by animals. This journey in the scorching heat is carried out by both the young and elderly making the return journey of carrying heavy water buckets.  Growing up in Sierra Leone, I know well the life of poverty as I too often made this very same journey to collect water. I cannot explain to what I felt in my heart, all I can say it's totally unacceptable to me that this is still the existence and struggle for so many people.

Water is essential for life, the basic human need to have access to clean safe water for drinking sanitation cooking and agriculture is much needed for survival.

We are asking on behalf of the people of Mosondo village to help them change their lives.
To achieve this, we have contacted WaterAid who, although have projects in Sierra Leone are limited in their resources. They have however put us in touch with a partnering company on the ground who drill Wells. We need to raise £5,000 to cover labour, materials and transportation of the goods to Mosondo being so remote. We plan to personally oversee and document the build of the Well. 100% of the money raised will go towards the project and we will cover our own travel cost.
We are committed to bring clean water to the people of this village but we cannot fulfil this commitment without your help please DIG deep in helping us to DIG a Well for the people of Mosondo.
