28th Infantry Battalion Charity Cycle 2024

THE EVENT
28th Infantry Battalion personnel will take part in a charity cycle with the purpose of raising vital funds for the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund, ONE Veterans Charity and the Alzheimers Society of Ireland.
The charity cycle will begin in Finner Camp, Co.Donegal and finish in Letterkenny, Co.Donegal, a distance of approximately 78km. The event will aim to enhance 28th Infantry Battalion relations with the local community, while raising much needed funds for the above mentioned charities.
To achieve this, a number of stops will be incorporated into the route taking in some of the prominent sporting, educational and historical landmarks throughout the county including Donegal Castle, Biddy O'Barnes, Finn Park, McCumhail Park and ATU Campus Letterkenny.
The CHARITIES
The Defence Forces Benevolent Fund is a fund established to support former members who have fallen on hard times. The fund provides financial support and relief to former members who find themselves in distressed circumstances.
Organisation of National Ex-Service Personnel (ONE) is a registered charity for veterans of the Defence Forces. The primary objective of ONE is to support the needs of Irish veterans by the provision of accommodation to homeless and other veterans in need of such domestic accommodation in its Veterans’ Hostels, and the provision of other advice and support to veterans through its nationwide network of Branches and Veterans’ Support Centres. ONE has three hostels for homeless veterans in Dublin, Donegal and Westmeath.
The Alzheimers Society of Ireland is the leading dementia-specific service provider in Ireland. The ASI works across the country in the heart of local communities, providing dementia-specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers.
YOUR CONTRIBUTION
Donations and contributions made towards this event will be used by the above charities to continue to provide the vital functions and services in the local community. In particular, the Defence Forces Benevolent Fund and ONE Veterans Charity will continue to strive to provide services and support to veterans who require their assistance.
