I am 46 years old and have been healthy my whole life, and for the past few years I've in the best shape of my life from cycling, running and even finishing two Ironman races. This past month I started having severe stomach pains, fatigue and rapid weight loss. A CT scan ordered by my doctor revealed tumors in multiple places. A biopsy of my liver the next day confirmed that I have neuroendocrine tumor also known as PNET, a rare form of pancreatic cancer that’s already in an advanced stage and has metastasized to my lungs, liver and lymph nodes.
I continue to stay positive and plan to do whatever it takes to fight this cancer inside me. I know it will be the hardest thing I've ever done but there is no option for me. I have an amazing wife and two young sons that are my world. We've had some great family adventures together and I plan on us having many more.
What scares me the most right now is my ability to support my family as the cancer progresses and during my treatments when I begin chemo. It's only been a few weeks and the medical costs so far have been shocking. Insurance will begin to cover more as my treatment continues but were already learning insurance doesn’t cover as much as I thought it would.
So many of you have offered to make this page for us, and I appreciate it so much, but I wanted the message to come from me. I have never asked for financial help before, but this challenge we're now facing is bigger than my sense of pride. So many of you have already offered to help our family and already have with your thoughts prayers (and even delicious meals!). I thought this site would be another, easy way to help us. If you feel you can or are willing to donate, every little bit would be appreciated.
