During the Summer of 2020, Jared Gomez started experiencing severe headaches. At first, they were infrequent and not a big deal – probably just a migraine. After a while, the headaches were becoming a part of everyday life. However, they would get so bad that he was not able to drive at times.
After consulting with his doctor, he went on a vacation to the beach in an effort to destress thinking it would reduce the headaches. While the vacation was fun, the headaches persisted and kept getting worse.
Towards the end of October 2020, Jared’s doctor recommended a brain scan. During this appointment it was discovered that Jared had a Pineal Brain Tumor of Intermediate Differentiation –a very rare type of tumor.
Jared’s sister immediately picked him up from the doctor’s office after receiving the diagnosis and took him straight to the internationally renowned, Barrow Neurological Institute, where he was admitted for surgery to remove the tumor.
Over the course of 3 weeks Jared underwent 3 separate surgeries. The surgeries were a success, but he now faces proton therapy - a type of radiation therapy that uses high-energy beams - to completely eliminate the tumor.
For those who know Jared, you will know he is unwavering, the kindest, and most optimistic person – even in the face of adversity. Throughout all of this, Jared still managed to stay on top of his Electrical Apprenticeship classes and graduate from the 4-year program at the conclusion of the Fall 2020 semester!
Like most of us, Jared’s health insurance will cover some of the expenses, but like anyone in a fight against cancer, he has been affected on many levels. Jared’s family at K2 Electric would like to support him by fundraising for medical assistance and living expenses, so he can focus on his health and recovery.
Jared is so appreciative of the flood of support that he has already received and thanks you from the bottom of his heart.
