Sensory Room for LUKAS school!

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Sandra Equihua. I am starting a GO FUND me page for my 6 year old son, Luka, who was diagnosed with autism.

He has been attending John F. Kennedy elementary in the Kindergarten Autism Unit in Dallas, Texas.
Units like these are few in the Dallas District (believe me, I've searched!) and even less willing to donate a room to cater to autistic kiddos needs.
One of these rooms in Luka's school is the AUTISM SENSORY ROOM.

The purpose of a  sensory room is to help our kiddos calm down and help them regain focus. Many kids on the spectrum are ultra sensitive to either sound, sight, touch, smell or taste https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr4_dOorquQ .
Throughout the day, they encounter what to them, may be overstimulants, therefore making it difficult to continue focusing or learning. It can be exhausting.

An ideal SENSORY ROOM should at least have dim lighting, stimulating equipment such as a ball pit , squeeze machines, trampolines, sensory tables or something as simple as decent flooring.
Unfortunately, Luka's SENSORY ROOM is anything but.

Above are pictures of Lukas sensory room at his school. This is where Luka and his classmates go to TWICE a day, every week for 2 hours to "desenetize".
It breaks my heart to see this, and so I have decided to create a proper room, not only  for Luka and his classmates at his school, but for future kiddos at the unit as well.

We would love to have something as elaborate as the picture shown below, but for now, we are aiming for a ball pit which will provide sensory stimulation for our kids. We need many things, but the pit is probably one of the most pricy items on our list.

The one we have in mind is $1133.95 from this link: https://www.especialneeds.com/shop/sensory-motor-skill-tools/multi-sensory-environments/ball-pits/rectangle-budget-ball-pit.html
It's pretty big and will fit inside the classroom
( BTW, it does not come with the man in the pit! Ha, ha!)

An entire year was spent with Luka and his classmates doing SENSORY ROOM time. Our goal is that by the beginning of the school year in AUGUST, the JFK autism unit will be able to count on having a functional and satisfactory room that they can use as intended.

We would be eternally grateful for your aid and hope you can help, any donation is welcome and we promise to keep you all informed on the development of our new SENSORY ROOM. THANK YOU!!!!
