Cameron’s Road To Recovery

Donation protected
It’s taking everything in me to post this....so bare with me.

I took a long break from social media to deal with life’s “reality” and focus on my family and have recently resurfaced on Facebook to share my art.

A lot of you know by now my oldest Cameron (age 15) has been diagnosed with Chronic Elhers Danlos Ligament Disease which results in dislocations and constant chronic body pain.

As a result she has had a femur fracture, multiple dislocations in her right knee, along with 2 MPFL reconstruction surgeries within the past year and a half.

On July 30th Cameron was babysitting a young boy and was struck by a car while riding a bike. (The little boy was fine thankfully due to Cam’s quick thinking), however Cameron was injured resulting in destroying the MPFL reconstruction surgery she had just fully recovered from.

Unfortunately the driver left the scene, and upon connecting with her 2 weeks later, we found their insurance coverage was the worst you could possibly have and Florida Homestead protection laws prevent us from proceeding any further from collecting. And no, law Inforcement did not ticket or site this person for leaving the scene of an accident.....I will leave it at that.

Following Cameron’s procedure I met with her surgeon. He told me that Cameron’s knee could not take any more, and this injury has resulted in permanent damage to the bone and ligaments in her leg and under no circumstances can she undergo another surgery other than a total knee replacement. She also can never participate in sports ever again.

They do not perform total knee replacements on children, and the youngest person to receive one in the US is 35 years old.

In order to gain more knowledge and get more answers, I took Cameron to Andrews Institute to meet with a doctor who we saw when Cameron had her first fracture.

After reviewing her file, he told us she needed to complete 3 months of physical therapy and then be referred to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota or HSS in New York as her case is incredibly unique and out of everyone’s scope here.

Cameron just finished her PT appointment this evening...and her therapist informed me that it’s time for Cameron to go to Mayo or HSS, as her range of motion is at a halt and they are concerned about her quality of life regarding her mobility with her leg.

No matter which location I choose, it will require travel and atleast 5 days time for us to get Cameron evaluated at the center. In addition to her knee, she is having vascular issues as well, so will be requiring basically a full body work up to determine how to give Cameron the best quality of care so in return she can live her best life as pain free as possible.

Cameron has extensive physical therapy ahead of her, as well as more procedure(s) on her knee, with additional PT to follow.

✨update: After speaking with Mayo, they do not take our insurance and everything will be self pay✨

I’m going to need to sell as much art and raise as much money as possible in order to further help Cameron on this next phase.

Please share, like, love my art posts and if a piece speaks to your soul, please purchase it. I do offer layaway and am taking commissions.
