Melendez Family House Fire
Donation protected
On Wednesday afternoon,01/24/2024, an electrical fire tore through the front half of our family home. Mom has been in this house for 11 years, building our family home, creating the best memories for us and now her grandchildren.
The flames tore through our attic and bedrooms. As a result, everything was lost in Elizabeth, Kristina and Zaira’s bedrooms; clothing, furniture, mementos and all of Zaira’s toys; we were able to salvage a few of her favorite snuggle friends and her blanket but all else is lost. Zaira just celebrated her 8th birthday 3 weeks ago.
Our garbage man and neighbor Bobby, saved moms life, banging on the door and trying to hose down the flames until the fire dept arrived.
Thankfully the flames were contained to the bedrooms but the smoke damage is through out our entire home, and may lead to having to replace everything, even if it wasn’t directly hit by the flames.
UPDATE: 2/1/24
We have now been told that they can not salvage any of the furniture or contents in the remaining rooms, that were not burnt or initially damaged in the fire, due to smoke damage.
we have received an overwhelming amount of support for clothes and toiletries. We are still looking for a long term place to live for the next year, that will have to completely furnish a new.
We are reeling with all of the information, we have so much to do, say and think about.
Although our hearts are aching, we are so grateful that no one was hurt, that we are all together and so grateful for the outpouring of support that has already been sent our way.
The love, support, generosity and offers to help are overwhelming, and we are forever grateful for everything! Any donation will help immensely as we will still need to afford deposit, rent and furniture as we navigate the next year.
Thank you!!
