Dad was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer. His only hope was to leave his home of Creston, BC and come to Calgary. Alberta for a risky surgery.
Dad went in for Surgery June 10th, 2016. The surgery lasted 10 hours. Dad was in ICU on life support for 6 days. He was moved out to a ward, and then things went bad.
He went back to ICU. Found out he was allergic to one of the meds he was given and ended up with massive blood clots on both lungs and one in his leg. His left lung collapsed and there is now permanent damage done to the right side of his heart from a blood clot.
Dad finally has come back out of ICU again 11 days later.....but now has decided that he will NOT go back on the ventilator again.
During all this my mom and I have been by his side. My mom is not able to work, as she is five hours from home. She doesn't drive, so needs to rely on everyone for transportation.
Thankfully we have friends that we are able to stay with during this time....but the cost of hospital food and parking is taking its toll. Not to mention gas money and having to still pay on mortgage on the home in Creston.
When my dad is finally able to come home (which could be months down the road), my mom is not going to be able to work as she is going to have to care for dad.
Every day right now is a struggle. We are not looking for a hand out at all, just for some help as we deal with a very emotional time.
The one good thing during all this time is that there is a baby waiting to be born. This is their first great grand child that we are hoping dad will get to meet.

All funds collected will be used for food, gas, parking and mom and dads bills since mom is unable to work.
