Building a Tiny Home for Homeless
Mike and Shawna Solmen moved to near Maryville, Tennessee in 2015 with the dream of building a village of tiny homes so those who are homeless can live in dignity and security. Our church, United Faith Community Church in Valley, Nebraska, is committed to sending a group of people to help them build the first tiny home on July 20-26, 2016. We have 13 individuals who will travel to Maryville and help construct this first home. We want to pay the entire cost of the construction so Mike and Shawna don't have to use their resources for this part of the village.
Mike and Shawna and their three children have moved away from their friends and family to follow the dream that God gave them. We invite you to be a part of blessing their ministry by giving to support this first build. Any excess funds that are raised will be passed on to them to build the next tiny house or help expand their ministry.
When they first shared their vision with me, they came to me as their pastor, seeking my counsel. What a bittersweet moment that was as I knew immediately that they needed to pursue this dream, yet I knew they would be leaving us behind. I believe God has called and blessed this ministry and am compelled to help them as much as possible.
A homeless person will soon be able to move out of their car or where ever they are staying into their own secure, weatherproof home with a bathroom, kitchen and heating/airconditioning unit. They will be able to sleep streched out on their own loft bed and keep food items in a refrigerator. They will be able to use their kitchen to cook and their bathroom to shower in private. They will be able to establish an address and receive mail. They will have a secure place to keep their clothing and personal items. And they will have a friendly family that will be mentoring them and sharing friendship and love with them. They will not have to apologize or avoid the topic when someone asks about where they live, but will respond with pride, "I live in a tiny house!" They will find dignity and hopefully along with that a new purpose in life.
Most importantly, Mike and Shawna want to share the grace, love and mercy that Jesus Christ has shown to them.
Please think about all the things you take for granted and give generously so someone who doesn't have any of those things can enjoy life in their own little house.
I thank you and pray that God will bless you as you bless this ministry.
