“Arresting!”
That’s what critics call the Living Art project.
LIVING ART empowers young artists to create life-sized portraits of first responders on donated doors.
The Non-profit Living Art is gearing up for its seventeenth season of PORTRAITS, PEOPLE & PLACES with its special theme this year:
Portraits, People, and Places:
Opening Hearts and Minds
Teens from Dorchester and surrounding neighborhoods paint full size portraits of police officers, firefighters, EMTs and veterans using doors instead of canvasses.
The intimate process of painting portraits of these brave citizens encourages empathy and new understandings of each other's worlds. Students in the program also develop transferrable skills that will increase their success in academics, jobs and relationships through challenging exercises that promote critical thinking in both individual and group settings.
Your donation is urgently needed to fund the next cycle of this youth-police détente program!
We urgently need to find sources of funding for this program with its new emphasis on its call for equality in our community.
We need money for art materials, hardware and paying the instructors. We need money for moving and setting up the students' paintings at the exhibition sites around the city.
Last season’s portraits were exhibited in Roxbury, Dorchester, Lower Mills and at Boston City Hall through the month of April.
Your contribution for any amount will make all the difference and will be most appreciated.
All donor names will be posted on a large Banner which will be displayed everywhere we show the doors. Should you wish to pay by credit or debit card, you may do so on this site.
Or, if you wish to pay by check, it should be payable to LIVING ART, Inc. and mailed to :
