Dental Mission to Peru

Health is a basic human right, of which oral health is an integral part. We are volunteering to participate in a dental mission to a third world country in South America. This is made possible to us through an Organization called Kindness In Action. Kindness In Action to about helping the less fortunate under difficult conditions to get the appropriate health and dental care required. Poor oral health is one of the root causes of poor general health.
With our adventurous spirits we have been placed in the Amazon Basin in Peru partnering with D.B Peru. From Lima we will fly to Iquitos, the largest city in the world that can only be accessed by air or water. We will then travel by boat down the Napo River to a lodge that is very basic. Every morning we will travel by boat to a different village and isolated communities without electricity or health services. There will approx 4-8 clinic days.
Our clinic days will consist of Jocelyn primarily providing dental cleanings and local anesthesia. Alex may be delegated to assist a dentist with oral surgery or fillings, sterilize dental instruments, run crowd control, help with triaging patients or providing patient education for improved home care.
Our guiding principle is pain relief. However our team will be providing a number of restorative procedures, preventative dental cleanings, patient education and oral surgery. We will be bringing our own equipment and supplies. Dental work will be performed wherever we can whether it be a picnic table, school desk, bench or a stackable chair.
We will never be able to reach all of those in need. People may be waiting in the hot sun for up to 2 days for treatment. We understand that we have limitations. We promise to provide quality treatment keeping in mind it is kinder to treat less people with due care and leave some without treatment, than it is to treat everybody who shows up without sensitivity. We want to impact these communities positively and leave a good lasting impression.
Our total cost is 7000$ which includes flights to Lima & Iquitos, food, immunizations, transportation and accommodation.
We are asking you, the good people we have been raised by, grown up with and befriended along the way to help us help others.
