Classical Concert Tour to Brazil!
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
My name is Kelvin Mun. I am 22 years old and I am currently studying violin performance at the Western University in London, Ontario. I am one of the violinists in London based chamber ensemble, Magisterra Soloists International. This summer, we have 2 week tour scheduled to Brazil! And I am looking for donors and supporters to support the plane tickets to Brazil.
Magisterra Soloists International is a Canadian chamber ensemble that unites artists from around the world, under the direction of acclaimed German violinist, Annette-Barbara Vogel (Western University). This summer, Magisterra Soloists International is embarking on a ten-day concert tour throughout Brazil, which will also include educational outreach to primary schools there, in collaboration with the professors and professional musicians from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Universidade Estadual de Maringa, Universidade Federal do Minas Gerais and Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. As student and working musician, I will have the opportunity to bring commissioned Canadian works to Brazil and to rehearse and perform them in collaboration with Brazilian performers in several cities. The goal of the tour is for young Canadian musicians to experience professional musical life and to learn about Brazilian culture by having the chance to collaborate with Brazilian musicians and perform for Brazilian audiences.
I expect to learn a lot about the music of Brazil and to see how it differs from the music I study here in Canada. I am also interested to see how much North American strings’ education has impacted the musical education system in Brazil.
This tour would grant me the opportunity to become a more engaged global citizen by exposing me to a fascinating new culture, and allowing me to participate in an exchange of musical abilities. I am proud of the skills I have developed as a classical violinist, and I am excited to share these with those I encounter throughout Brazil. In my opinion, music is a universal language, and will serve to unite us in this context, as many of us will be coming from very diverse cultural backgrounds. I believe participating in this international outreach project would allow me to engage the people of Brazil by sharing not only my music but also my Korean and Canadian cultures. This program would also enrich my musical skills through the professional level of musicianship required on tour.
In closing, this experience would be an unforgettable one, musically, culturally, and individually, and my hopes are that I will be able to purchase the plane tickets to Brazil. Thank you so much for reading, and I truly appreciate all of your support.
