Honduras 1st attempt at Mount Everest!

Hi Everyone, 

My name is Ronald Quintero, I’m 40 years old and I currently live in Berkeley California.

I was born and raised in a small rural town of Camasca Intibucá, Honduras neighboring the border with El Salvador. Being on my feet was a way of life and from a very young age, I undertook on farming and agriculture chores. I attended primary school in the village and had to walk roughly 3 miles daily to go to school. I grew up in an unprivileged environment but I never saw it as an obstacle. I never knew what is was like to have any modern toys so it only took for my imagination to go outside and play with the outdoors, climbing trees and exploring river streams. My mother in pursuit of a better opportunity, moved to U.S at a very young age. I was two years old when my mother left to the U.S and I was left at the care of my grandmother and uncles. In 1998  at 16 years old, my mom and I finally reconnected when I immigrated to Berkeley, California.

Since then, I have dedicated my life to fitness and outdoor exploration. I have climbed 4 of the 7 summits to date; a dream that began more than 9 years ago. As a Latino alpine mountaineer chasing the 7 summits of the world and seeking to be the first Honduran to do so, support and visibility in the sport has been a challenge. My goal is not only to inspire Honduran youth both in Honduras and across the world, my intention is to also help increase positive representation of Honduran talent and perseverance. Reaching the summit of Everest is not just my dream, but that of many Hondurans that feel left out of such a momumental achievement.  Although I carry the experience, athleticism, and determination necessary to succeed, I unfortunately cannot do it without financial support.
