Jakes stolen Hockey gear

Jake Hutyra is an avid hockey fan, and player.  He has played youth hockey in Colorado since he was 5 years old for the Hyland Hills Jaguar Hockey Club.  He grew a love for the sport and played for 9 straight seasons until he broke his back, which he would soon thereafter be told was a direct result of having Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  This diagnosis came just following his 14th birthday.  He has been battling cancer for 3 ½ years and the roadmap of treatment has been long and aggressive.  

During this time, he was unable to continue playing hockey.  He didn’t have the time, health or energy to continue.  Over the course of treatment so far he has spent countless hours at Children’s Hospital in Aurora Colorado receiving over 180 chemo infusions, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions, blood draws, stem cell harvests, ER visits, bone marrow biopsies, respiratory support, hair loss along with missing time with his friends and holidays. You name it, he lived it. All the agony and time that comes with chemotherapy.  He’s a fighter, he’s fought it with dignity and pride and continues to do so, like any hockey player would do.

Recently, at the end of 2020 as he was finally feeling enoughenergy and strength that he decided, despite treatment not being complete, that he was ready to step back on to the ice.  He would fight on the ice to gain his strength and speed back and once again spend time doing what he loves the most, playing hockey.

To play again, a good deal of his gear needed to be replaced to accommodate the growing he did while he was out for those years for treatment. He was happy to be back on the ice and gradually started working his way back by playing high school hockey this winter.  

In the early morning hours of Wednesday 3/31, a car pulled up next to his car parked on the street in Westminster.  Thieves pulled right up next to his vehicle jumped out and proceeded to steal items from the car, including all of his gear.  His entire hockey bag was taken containing every piece of gear he owned.  We haven’t yet been able to identify the car or people involved and have not been able to recover anything.  

We are hoping to replace his gear so he can continue with his hockey journey.  All proceeds for this go-fund-me would be applied to just that, all hockey.  Hockey has meant the world to him and our hockey community, family and friends have been so happy to see the smile it has brought back to his face and have been cheering him on from the sidelines for years through games, practices and treatment.  Hockey means the world to him, we hoped to be signing him up for spring camps starting the first of April to gain his strength and stamina back and then on to play a final season as U18 and a senior this next hockey season.

Any help provided would be outstanding.  Words cannot express what it would mean to Jake to hand him some gear and watch him do what he does best.  This is where he really comes alive! His 2nd family is the one he spends time with on the ice.
