UPDATE: Today was the day!! My doctor said surgery was a great success and that I should expect an almost perfect, if not perfect, outcome. Thank you all for the well wishes and thank you to those who donated (there’s still time to ). I’m very excited by this news and so looking forward to getting on the path to recovery and get back to work.
ORIGINAL POST:: I absolutely love my career as a court stenographer. I love the challenge of each new case, and the intensity that it would sometimes bring. Working hard at something I love brought me great satisfaction, purpose; feelings of accomplishment and independence. The best part was learning about a lot of different subjects that each new case would bring. And perfecting my craft which took me 26 years to do.
HOWEVER... a failed hand surgery for trigger finger, ended my career… Just like that, at a snap of a finger, it was gone. My right hand and middle finger were left deformed by tendon damage and scar tissue. I am unable to curl my middle finger and have limited function to where even holding a pen is difficult.
In order to regain function, I will need reconstructive surgery to repair the damage. Insurance pays for very little since they deem it “elective.”
The purpose of my story is to raise money for an expensive surgery. I want more than anything to get back to work but need help getting there.
