Hi from Castlebar Christian Fellowship!

We are privileged to worship and serve in a truly historic building—the Wesleyan Chapel, located in the heart of Castlebar on The Mall. Our church is uniquely positioned as the only building on the town’s beloved green, and it holds a significant place in Ireland’s religious and architectural heritage.

Built in 1785, this chapel is the only building in Ireland where John Wesley himself laid the foundation stone. To commemorate the event, the people of the time placed a memorial stone above the front door, where it remains to this day.

Nearly 240 years later, while the structure remains strong, time has inevitably taken its toll. The roof, historic windows, and other key parts of the building are in urgent need of restoration to prevent further deterioration and to ensure the safety of our congregation and visitors.

As a thriving and growing church, we are not only preserving a landmark but also serving the community through prayer, worship, and active youth and children's ministries. We want this church to remain a place of faith and fellowship for generations to come.

We have already taken significant steps by commissioning a Heritage Architect’s Survey and submitting grant applications to Mayo County Council. However, due to the chapel’s heritage status, additional funding is required. The total cost of the restoration project is €194,000, and thanks to generous supporters, we have already raised nearly 25% of this amount.
