Team Ava Strong

Ava Jabczenski is a positive, bright,  athletic 10 year old girl. She loves soccer, basketball, and especially spending time with her family and friends.  She is quick to lend a helping hand when she sees someone in need. While other children her age are busy watching YouTube videos or playing roblox, Ava enjoys spending time with, and doting on younger children who adore and look up to her.


On Saturday, May 18th, Ava was doing one of the things she loves most; playing soccer with her friends.  She even scored the winning goal that took her team to the playoffs.  Little did anyone know that less than 24 hours later, her and her family’s lives would be changed forever.  

After being admitted to the hospital, undergoing many tests and hours of surgery, Ava’s parents and sister, Katelyn,  received the devastating news that no family should hear. Ava was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain cancer; Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (ATRT). It is so rare that only about 50 adults have ever been diagnosed with this type of cancer. It typically effects young children under the age of 3. Because of rarity and aggressiveness, the protocol to treat this type of cancer, is also extremely aggressive. She will be receiving radiation and chemotherapy over the course of the next year.  These treatments will require weeks at a time of  inpatient stays  at the hospital as well as weeks at home to recover.
