Every city has two stories- the one the news tells you and the one that actually exists. Chester, a city known for violence, is such a city. The story the news likes to tell- particularly about the young people of Chester- is that the kids are all killing each other. However, behind that story lies the fact that in Chester, many youth programs are not funded by the city. Many studies have shown a direct correlation between youth programming and (lack of) youth violence.
The Chester Cheetahs Track Club provides an opportunity for youth to not only be involved in positive programming, but also an opportunity for these same athletes to travel across the country. In the past several years, the track team has produced many junior olympians, world and national record holders and has rescued many young men and women from the tug of street life.
However, each year, there are kids who do not get to fully participate because of lack of funds. Imagine a city where the median income is less than 30,000- parents are just trying to make ends meet but still seek positive outlets for their children.
Please help us get these children to their out of state competitions. The first competition is in Orlanda, FL in early July. The second is the Junior Olympics in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The kids have been fundraising themselves- standing on the corner for hours with buckets, selling candy, trying to solicit sponsorships- and it is simply not enough. We need your help!
Please consider a donation of ANY amount to help us get our kids out of Chester and on to higher heights.
