Justin's Journey

Donation protected
On Tuesday, June 28th, I received a knock at the door at about 1am.  I was informed that my son, Justin, and his fiance, Hunter, had been hit head on by another driver while they were on their way to the hospital because Hunter, 34 weeks pregnant with their second child, was having contractions.

The other driver crossed the center line at 11:50 pm and everyone was en route to the hospital. My son, Justin, was in "bad" condition and I needed to get there right away.

I arrived just in time to see him before they wheeled him into emergency surgery. He looked at me and said, "I'm sorry, Mom. I had to swerve. I couldn't let him hit Hunter's side of the van." I let him know that Hunter and Little Man were going to be fine and he now needed to let the docs take care of him.

Four hours later, the surgeon came out to tell me that his left leg and knee had been crushed and he had severe damage to his right ankle and foot. Along with a myriad of miscellaneous other injuries. They cleaned up the leg/knee and ankle/foot. Additional surgeries will be needed.

It's a week later and he's had another surgery on his ankle/foot to remove additional bone fragements. Leg/knee reconstruction is scheduled for July 6th. Justin is expected to be in the hospital for at least the next 30, possibly 60 days; depending on how things progress.

Hunter has a broken toe, sprained foot and wrist, whiplash, and many other scrapes, cuts, bruises and bumps. They were concerned about placenta abruption. Thankfully, Little Man is fine and we are expecting a normal delivery. He's due to join the world on August 7th. Which happens to also be Daddy's birthday.

Justin is the main provider for his family.  Naturally, he won't be working for awhile. He does have medical insurance and disability insurance available to him. However, we do not yet know how long it will be before that disability insurance kicks in or what will be happening with his health insurance now that he's unable to work. They already have life and medical expenses they cannot financially cover. Which is adding to Justin's stress levels when he should be concentrating on his recovery.

Donations received will be used to cover their basic living expenses, care for their daughter Tempi (21 months old), and co-pays and deductibles as they arise. It's really too soon to know their actual needs or how things will play out with the insurance companies. Our current ask is to hopefully get them through the next couple months until we know more and hopefully have a handle on things.

It's crazy to realize how quickly life can change. Not having to have the additional worry of how to keep these kids in their apartment and keeping the lights on would really help us all immensely. Any kindness you can conceive will be greatly appreciated.
