The Great Dillon Project 2016
Donation protected
Hello Dillon descendents!
In 2015, my mother Bernadette Harding (nee. Dillon) and I discovered the unmarked grave of our ancestors, Samuel and Mary Dillon along with their son John Dillon at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin.
Samuel and Mary are my mother's grandparents on her father's side. Samuel died aged 80 in 1955. Mary died aged 68 in 1938. Their son John, (my mother's first cousin) tragically drowned aged 24 in 1927.
Their grave has no markings, no headstone; in fact, it looks like a dishevelled path. We aim to do something about this.
We are calling on their ancestors; all grandchildren, great grandchildren and (if over 18yrs) great, great grandchildren to join us in donating towards erecting a headstone and landscaping the grave. They deserve their final resting place to have an identity within the great walls of Glasnevin Cemetery.
The cemetery has quoted €1790 for erecting a headstone, (including engraving), landscaping and a large spray of flowers on behalf of all Dillons participating in this project. This order cannot be placed until we have a 50% deposit.
We need 35 donations of €50 to reach our target. We are calling on you all, near and far, to please donate to this worthy cause. It will be followed by a blessing at the grave and an overdue family reunion for those that can make it.
Go Fund Me is a safe and secure way of crowd-funding in a truly transparent way. It's easy for you to transfer a donation online from anywhere in the world at the touch of a button. We can also see how close to our target we are daily. I'm admin on this page, so when we have reached our target, I will request a cheque to be issued, which I will have in 2-3 working days. Then the order can be placed at Glasnevin.
Please note: Go Fund me charge a small fee per donation. Unfortunately this is unavoidable. It would be great if you could add an extra 6.4% to your donation if you're in Europe / UK (i.e. €3.20 if donating €50) to avoid it being deducted from our target amount. It's 7.9% if donating from Canada/ US and 6.75% if donating from Australia. See: https://www.gofundme.com/pricing/
Finally, our Facebook closed group The Great Dillon Project 2016 will update you as we go along. If you haven't joined already, contact me (Barbara Geoghegan) directly on Facebook and I'll add you.
Let's do this!
Go raibh míle maith agaibh!
xx
