Help an Indigenous single mother have a 2nd chance
A Call out to help an Indigenous newly single mother re-pay an old Visa debt and OSAP loan that is an obstacle to rent my own apartment for me and my 9 month old daughter C’asyikh, future OSAP loans, getting internet/phone contracts, hydro etc.
I am asking for help not to make others pay for my mistakes but to give me a second chance to build a life for me and C’asyikh. The reason the debt accumulated because lack of discipline, unable to deal with my PTSD /inter-generational trauma from residential school at the time. I wasn’t afforded a great position in life and spent a lot of it homeless and struggling.
Some of you may know I now have dedicated time and energy to Community and Land Defence which in 2020 I had left my housing and life behind to defend Wet’suw’eten territories.
Unfortunately I was one of the many indigenous people that had to pay for Post-Secondary school.
Debt break down OSAP and Visa debt from 2007
Ontario Student Loan portion of OSAP one time incentive to repay and will fix my Credit score
$5031.21 due May 17th 2021
TD Visa credit card settlement of just over 50% of the debt with interest.
$4565.00 due May 25th
Federal Student Loan of OSAP(still waiting on details)
Canada Revenue agency said the amount loaned with interest no offer to settle
$4900.00 (time of loan) plus interest (waiting on $ amount owed) due:not sure yet
* I have some money saved to put towards the undetermined interest. This momma needs a second chance to make and build a solid life for myself and C’asyikh.
It was hard decision to move back to Toronto on my own with C’asyikh during the pandemic, it is much needed to get my life back together. Me and C’asyikh’s father are working together to make sure we secure first and last, etc. We are going to co-parent it’s unfortunately the decision that needs to be made.
September 2021 I am applying for Post-Secondary schooling. Assaulted Women’s and Child Counsellor at George Brown with the intention of aiming to get a master’s or PHD in Social work or Psychology. It’s my dream and part of my 10 year plan to become an Indigenous therapist. Paying this debt now will help tremendously because I will need OSAP in good standing. This will help myself and others in the long run.
I am currently gathering my resources and exploring all possible avenues to help gain safe affordable housing for me and C’asyikh. And Looking into other fundraising ways
As soon as I reach my goal I will take this down
