To All My Dear Patients, Friends, and Supporters,
On September 12, 2019, I was devastated to learn the Virginia State Medical Board had suspended my license to practice medicine pending a hearing on October 17, 2019. At the conclusion of the hearing, the board may exonerate me, reprimand me, suspend my license or even revoke my license.
My suspension stems from the political rift between IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America) and ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) where IDSA contends that Lyme Disease is simple to treat and not chronic. In my experience, this is often not the case and unfortunately, the Virginia Medical Board favors IDSA over ILADS. Many ILADS doctors like myself have suffered medical board investigations because they treat outside the IDSA guidelines.
As you know, I treat some of the most complex patients. They often have been searching for a cure for years - other doctors have given up on them. I offer all my heart, soul and resources to provide the best care possible to each patient regardless of strict guidelines. The board has accused me of over-treating these patients, despite the fact that hundreds of my patients have improved under my care and returned to normal activity.
I’m fighting the decision of the Virginia State Medical Board in court, challenging their authority to dictate a “one-size fits all” approach to medical practice. This step must be taken to establish a precedent for future cases against ILADS physicians.
My lawyer is an expert in this type of litigation and has set up the framework that can win the case. Between now and the hearing in October, my legal fees are estimated at well over $200,000. I have already personally financed much of this process, and now I need your financial support to win this battle.
I must win this case in order to retain my license and continue treating patients with complex chronic diseases. I cannot do it alone. Your donation will help ensure that those who suffer from chronic illness can continue to receive the care they so desperately need. This is a battle that must be won for ALL of us!
Thank you and God Bless You All,
Dr. Leila H. Zackrison MD, FACR, FACP, FAARM
