Broken and broke yet unbroken.
Savannah Clark made the great trek from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee to Camp Wawona in the heart of Yosemite National Park, to work at summer camp. Growing up at a summer camp in Kansas she was excited to try something new and work at a different camp with a new atmosphere.
As a counselor we work 22 hour days, those other 2 hours are our beloved break time. On Friday July 1st, a group of counselors including Savannah headed down to the river to swim and hang out. After many others had jumped into the river from the bridge, Savannah got up to jump as well. When she hit the water we all knew something was wrong. She managed to drag herself to a rock nearby and the rest of us jumped in and got to her. Her leg was twisted and something was clearly not right. We got camp medical down to the river and with the help of the guy counselors we were able to carry her out and get her to the ambulance that was on it's way.
Later on at Saint Agnes hospital in Fresno, the doctor confirmed a femur fracture and the need for immediate surgery to repair it. Once the doctor got in to fix it he realized it was a worse break than he had originally thought- but praise the Lord he was able to fix it perfectly! Her family still being in Kansas, tried to figure out a way to get her back home. She wouldn’t be allowed to fly for another 3 weeks so the only other option was to have her family drive her back to Kansas.
She's scheduled to graduate from grad-school this coming May with her degree in School Counseling. It will most likely be put on hold as she won’t be able to drive herself to and from her internship, nor her classes at Southern.
As you can imagine the medical bills that come after being in the emergency room, having surgery, and a five day stay in the hospital can be astronomical. Being a student on top of that doesn’t help to bring about funds to cover those bills either. Recovery is happening, but will be a very slow process. We are praising Jesus that this accident wasn’t any worse and that it was “just” her leg.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any financial help you’d be able to give. Savannah would most likely kill us if she knew we had made this page, but I guess it’s a good thing she’s on her way back to Kansas already ;)
God Bless.
