Help our dad to walk again
Donation protected
Our dad, Brent Ryther, injured his back 14 years ago while working in the yard. He required surgery to fix it, but after the surgery he got worse. After several surgeries he has been left with scar tissue growing in his spine. The scar tissue is causing more and more nerve damage as it grows. He has been disabled for about 11 years. He was prescribed a wheelchair 11 years ago and told he wouldn't be walking much longer. He rarely used the wheelchair, only to go to long meetings and to sit in the north endzone of Rice-Eccles Stadium to watch his beloved Utah Utes. He has been a huge Ute fan since his oldest brother started taking him to games when he was 9. He turns 50 on the 11th of July. Dad has been almost bedridden for six months. The nerve damage has made it so he can't even sit in the wheelchair. He has scheduled a surgery on his birthday to implant a spinal cord stimulator. The stimulator will stop most of the pain signals sent by his nerves. He had a trial stimulator for a week in June, it was life changing. Our mom is a special education teacher, she has been the breadwinner in our family for over a decade. Her insurance will only pay for half of the surgery. As we researched, we found that the Jordan School District is the only school district in the state that doesn't cover the surgery at the normal rates. Our mom and dad will be left with a bill of around $25000. They can't afford it, but it will literally allow our dad to get back on his feet. Please help us however you can. If you can't donate, please share this on Facebook. The more people who see this, the better chance we have of raising enough to make a difference. We have included a link that tells about the surgery. Thank you for your help.
