Danny’s Broken Bass Fund
Donation protected
Hi everyone,
This fundraiser is to help Danny Roholt get a new upright bass.
Sunday May 23rd at a live show in Berkeley, CA a big gust of coastal wind came in so strong it knocked Danny’s beautiful vintage upright bass (a rare 1955 King Mortone) over and blew it off the back of the stage. It went down hard and underwent a devastating break at the neck, destabilizing a past repair and creating significant new damage. He took it into a luthier who can fix it, but a proper fix costs upwards of $3000 ~ more than the bass itself..in other words..it’s totaled. Danny is a great friend, great musician, and has lots of shows and recording sessions booked this summer with Hattie & The Moon Howlers, Rodeo Flat, The Jessica Malone Band and more. Let’s get Danny back on stage with a new bass! Every little bit counts! Your support means the world to Danny and he can’t wait to play more music for you all ASAP. Thank you!
Why a new bass? The cost of the repair exceeds the cost of the instrument, and the repair time puts Danny without a bass for over a month.
Cost breakdown for repair:
Neck reset, mortise conversion, metal dowel replacement from failed past repair: $2,392 (quote by Nathaniel Rich, SF based luthier)
Pegbox and scroll reattachment and repair, laminate re-glue: $1,000 (quote by Jeff Sahs, Sacramento based luthier)
New endpin assembly: $200 + installation
Total repair cost: in excess of $3,000
Length of time for repair: 1+ month
