Sadly, on the morning of June 4th, The New York Minute Chinese Take out suffered a catastrophic fire. Despite being called to the scene at 4am, watching his family restaurant, filled with personal memorabilia almost literally burn to the ground....Jay Kim Welch kept in theme with his positive attitude and friendly demeanor, by describing this devastating event as “there will be a longer wait than usual for all orders”.
How hard must it be to laugh at such an emotional time, having just lost his Mom, the well known Matriarch of the business and beloved Ms Kim just last year, and now a devastating fire. The fire has taken far more than just the wood it turned to ash, it literally burned away the livelihood of Jay Kim and his many employees. Yet despite all of this, somehow Jay Kim found the strength to lift us all up-again. Having just spoken to him and hearing him say “We WILL rebuild” is inspiring.
Jay Kim has lifted our community every day with his comfort food menu, quick smile, and last minute freebies added to our orders. You couldn’t leave New York Minute without the free Cinnamon wontons. Jay Kim Welch’s generosity has touched everyone reading this. I have organized this GoFundMe despite Jay Kim’s trepidation because I feel that after giving so much joy to the community, it’s time that we, the community lifted up Jay Kim and his employees
Yes, the loss will have some insurance component, but I for one dont want to wait for my Sesame Chicken any longer than I need to...
Please help me help The New York Minute, Jay, and the employees through these dark times so they can sustain for the time being and also to return to putting a smile on all of our faces and warm delicious food in our bellies!
