Kimberly Kaufmann
Recent graduate of South High School, current employee of Vitamin Cottage of Pueblo.
As many of you may already know our cousin Kimberly Kaufmann has been fighting for her life.
On July 3, 2016 Kimberly Kaufmann was admitted to St. Mary Corwin, with a bladder infection that quickly became a kidney infection. Kimmie has been a type one diabetic since the age of nine, so this complicated things. Kimmie went into septic shock because of the infection, and high sugar levels. Kimmie was then intubated and put on a ventilator. Kimmie then developed fluid in and around her lungs. Many days in ICU and she still was not able to breath on her own. Everyday they tried to get Kimmie off the ventilator with no success. Finally, on the 14th of July Kimmie was able to be taken off the ventilator. She has damage to her throat and vocal cords was weak and confused. She continues to make progress everyday. She is still in ICU but is sitting up, and taking short walks with a walker.
Her mom, Kathy Kaufmann, along with many other family member, have been by her side since the ordeal began.
Even with insurance the cost of ICU is exorbitant and exceeds the amount insurance is willing to pay.
Kimmie has a long road ahead, and will need the help with payments she still needs to make even though she is unable to work.
Our family would be extremely thankful if you are willing to help in anyway.
We will continue to update you with information.
